  1. Bookstore Shenanigans or How I Managed To Write My First Check and Fail

So I got my books yesterday… All $615.50 worth of it. Damn you, need for proper education. I now have $2900 left in my bank account. I do love the smell of new textbooks though.  It’s probably going to be the scent of my Amorentia potion.

Anyways, I had a little moment of real-world noobishness. I found a bunch of checks that was issued to me by my bank when I made my account with them earlier that morning. I have a checking account, it’s just not really functional as one since I still use the ATM. Checks are too much of a hassle to write anyways. But the point is that I decided to pay for my schoolbooks using that check.

I get to the bookstore and this lady takes a look at my schedule and starts taking books off the wall without even giving me a bag to put them in. And if you’ve seen my frame, you’d know that no way in hell can I carry all those textbooks without falling over. Before I could do so, though, she finally gave me a bag. My arms are still sore from lugging all those books around, actually.

Anyways, when the lady finished ringing up all the books, I proudly started writing a check… and failed, since my mind basically swapped the word “hundred” with “thousand”. And after writing another one, semi-successfully, the lady tells me that they can’t accept my check because it didn’t have my name on it. Hey, what can a complete noob do? D:

So my mom and I run to the nearest ATM and withdrew $640 worth… in twenties. TWENTIES. Why can’t ATM machines just carry hundreds anyways? I had to come up to that cashier to give her thirty-two twenty dollar bills. I think I had to apologize even more times than the number of those bills. xD Though it was one of the most amusing experiences ever.

That was my day of major failure. Hold the laughter until I’ve exited the room, please. :)

Mental note: Order a check book.
