…Ruby Rodriguez. I think she’s funny enough, and she has enough personality for it. I’m thinking of a sitcom, and she’s an interior designer or has some other equally fun career, and she’s in her 30’s and she’s dating these men. It’s not about her being fat, because I think when you make fun of people’s looks, that’s just cheap. It’s going to be really funny, very Will & Grace.
I wish.
But then again, this is the Philippines, and in our sitcoms, we have Manny Pacquiao punching bags instead of punchlines, and these things are funny in any context: homosexuality, age, ethnicity and accents, and of course, disabilities. Take a quick look at our “comedies”: a man in drag is always funny, no matter what he’s going through, and you can always hit him on the head with a rolled up newspaper.
We have a hostile culture, and we’re just laughing it off.
Let’s stop this, Philippines. No campaigns, no projects, no rallies. Let’s just simply take a deep breath, and stop becoming bigots. No steps, just one big leap, one turn, 360. Let’s stop perpetuating this culture of hate and discrimination. Let’s just stop, and become better people.
I love you, whoever wrote this.
