Front cover, Bangor (Maine) Daily News, Wednesday, November 4, 2009.
There are people who celebrate keeping people who love each other apart. There are people who make it their pathetic life’s work to keep two people who belong together from not being together. There are people who revel in not letting others be genuinely happy, and making them feel like second-rate citizens in their own country, for the want of “preserving tradition.”
These people are assholes.
As evidenced by their sweater choices, no one pictured above has been laid since 1983.
The quote at the bottom is the kind of shit that makes my blood boil.
“This campaign has never been about hating gays, but about preserving marriage and only about preserving marriage…”
NO, it’s about denying people rights you are afforded, by virtue of who you choose to sleep with. It’s about hating gays in a way that accepted by a slim majority.
October 22, 2009, 2 weeks ago, the Maine Public Broadcasting Network ran a story about Maine’s unusually high divorce rate.
Where is the politically motivated campaign to outlaw divorce in Maine?
Denying gays the right to marry is denying a group of people the right to succeed at something you are allowed to fail at.
How batshit insane is that? Don’t talk to me about this “sanctity of marriage” bullshit.
Fuck. Happy Wednesday.
This is why I’m choosing to reject marriage. These assclowns have helped preserve an institution of privilege that I don’t want to be a part of. That and I’m also just a socially lazy poor old who’s family really could take or leave flying from all over the country to eat some cake and dance to Word Up by Cameo.
I want to punch that lady in the face.
Why can’t we keep marriage a fully secular institution? These people are denying rights. RIGHTS. Why should they keep rights from people for the sake of “preserving marriage”?
Stay pretty, Maine. And I hope you get that stick out of your ass.
